ARCHITECTURE WITHOUT INTENTION
CONCEPT
Architecture without intention is a Learning center for self-improvement, growth and change. It is located in a site that is constantly changing slope and form. The idea of architecture without intention is to allow the surroundings to dictate the foundation of the design, which is an idea that was inspired by the DAO DE JING passages:
1. THE WAY
To experience without intention
is to sense the world;
To experience with intention
is to anticipate the world.
32. SHAPES
Do not hold fast to shapes
But let sensation flow into the world
DESIGN
The Learning center is composed of several buildings, which are grouped in different zones of the site according to public and private functions. The contours of the landscape and the existing path are used to design the Learning center. The result is architecture without intention. The organic architectural language generated by the topography is then translated on the interior design of each individual building.
PROGRAM
The long-term accommodation villas are located in the private North East wing of the site. Since the landscape slopes down from North to South, it creates an opportunity to arrange the villas in stepped terraces. Each villa is embedded in the hillside and has a garden terrace facing South, with plenty of light entering the units.
The main hall is located on the site of an old temple, a scared space on the site. Arriving from the bottom of the site, visitors access the entrance to the main hall at the very top of the site. An exterior gallery wraps around the perimeter of the space and leads to a garden courtyard before finally entering the gathering space in the center. Inside, the juxtaposition of the louvers of the gallery with the louvers of the building and with the columns provides fractured views of the site and creates interesting patterns of light and shadow.
