WUNDERKAMMER
OBJECTIVE
A Wunderkammer is a chamber whose sole function is to act as a container for items of the utmost value whether sentimental or practical. The architectural Wunderkammer is an attempt to realize an architecture that reflects the fact that we are what we own.
DESIGN DIAGRAM
Following a given program, the design of the Wunderkammer is conceived from the curves of the multi-dimensional topology, which were extracted and repurposed to create new surfaces, making up the geometry of the pavilions. The two towers rising out of the lower valley act as a vertical circulation node, while a runway acts to tie the pavilions together. The organization of the program into a series of fragmented pavilions creates a controlled movement throughout the Wunderkammer. The impulse to control the circulation of the space reflects the entangling grip binding us to the things we own.
PROGRAM
The event space pavilion holds exhibitions, which display the rarest fashion design collections. Next, the underground stairway and tunnel lead to the amphitheatre, which follows the contours of the site, where spectators may sit and look onto the runway. The amphitheatre acts as a sort of un-enterable room, which holds the main event: a fashion show where perfectly sculpted beings sell the promise of beauty and happiness in superficiality.
